Virus and Spyware

As you may be aware of, there are several viruses out that can infect your computer. We recommend a three step approach to keeping your computer free of viruses and outside security problems.

1. Install and update an Antivirus Program (we recommend Symantec's Norton Antivirus 2007).

2. If you are using Broadband (RoadRunner or DSL), install a firewall program or have a router with firewall if you have multiple computers sharing the same Broadband connection.

3. Keep your Operating System files updated. Microsoft has free updates that will correct known security and incompatibility issues.

To prevent spyware from creating those annoying pop-ups on your computer, don't download programs that appear to be free and helpful. Examples include music download programs (Limewire, BearShare, KaZaa), free screen savers, or weather forecast programs. The reason they are free is because they allow other companies to pop-up advertisements while you are online!

Battery Recall

If you own a Dell, HP, Compaq, Toshiba, IBM (Lenovo), or Apple notebook you should check with your manufacturer to see if your computer is at risk for a battery failure. This failure can overheat your computer and could even create the risk of a fire!
