Accounting Data Service, Inc.  was founded in 1976 by the principals of the data processing department at the CPA firm of Hunt & Hunt in Lowville, NY. After pioneering computerized financial statement presentations to a large number of clients throughout Northern NY, it had become apparent that many businesses could benefit from data processing services as computers were still very expensive.

Initial services were limited by the software available, but expanded rapidly after the installation of a Centurion minicomputer. Services began with general ledger, financial statements and accounts receivable, but branched into payroll, accounts payable and professional billing. Comprehensive information systems were designed for convenient food store chains, and a freight company. A broad line of folding pegboard record keeping systems provided an alternative to McBee and Safeguard systems.

In July, 1982 the firm was selected by Victor Technologies as a full service personal computer dealer. The firm began selling PCs for word processing and spreadsheet applications. They wrote custom software for many clients using dBase. In 1985, they moved to their current location on North State Street.

They began to install RealWorld accounting software to replace the data processing services previously offered. For many clients, a multi-user environment was required. They provided this capability with Televideo equipment starting in 1984, and became authorized Novell Netware resellers in 1989. Since that time, they have done many networking projects for their clients in a variety of environments.

During the early 90's the firm continued to provide a variety of solutions for business record keeping functions. With the advent of Windows, many clients required advice on upgrades to take advantage of this new environment.

In 1995, the principals of the firm decided to begin marketing under the name Hunt's Computers to better reflect the nature of their business, as data processing had faded in importance. Many of their customers had been heard saying they got their computer at Hunt's. The fact that many of the employees are family members made the choice easier.

The Hunts have developed relationships with many national vendors, and currently market the Acer line of personal computers, and notebooks. For printers they sell Canon, Okidata, Hewlett Packard, and Lexmark. The staff includes those with more than 20 years experience in hardware installation repair services. They are capable of installation, service, and support for a variety of hardware and software applications. They perform upgrades and repairs to existing equipment and software. As Lewis County's only full service dealer, Hunt's maintains a sizable inventory of popular software titles, accessories, supplies, and spare parts tailored to meet their customer's needs. Turn to Hunt's Computers for all your information system needs.
